More About Farzana
Farzana Zaman is a Registered Social Worker dedicated to helping individuals and couples navigate life's complexities and build stronger connections. She believes in the inherent capacity for humans to not only survive but thrive, and approaches therapy with a deep respect for each person's unique story.
Born and raised in South Asia, Farzana brings a culturally sensitive and aware perspective to her work, recognizing the profound impact of relationships, environment, and lived experiences. She creates a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their past, understand their present, and cultivate hope for the future.
Farzana's approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing on evidence-based practices like CBT, Somatic Psychotherapy, as well as attachment-based models, mindfulness, and self-compassion. She specializes in individual and couple therapy, with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and the Developmental Model of Couple Therapy. She is passionate about helping clients "learn to learn," fostering self-compassion, and co-creating new meanings from their experiences.
Beyond her clinical work, Farzana is committed to knowledge sharing and mentorship, supervising Master's level students in clinical counseling. In her personal time, she enjoys family, friendships, her Bengal cat “Atticus”, theatre, mindfulness walks, hiking, and camping. She finds joy in food, music, storytelling, and community building.
If you're ready to move through the world with greater love and compassion for yourself and your relationships, Farzana offers in-person (Waterloo office), and virtual counselling throughout Ontario.
